TESCO - just don`t care Just to let you know about the following:
1) TESCO in Camberley, Surrey (The Meadows) has employed a carpark firm to monitor disabled parking & mother & toddler etc with the threat of wheel clamps & £60 fines for improper use. However this is just a bluff because in over a year or so I have never seen anyone monitoring disabled bays and they are well used by non-disabled, non-badge holders. I contacted the monitoring company asking why they were never on site, they said they monitored within their customers (TESCO) requirements, and off the record TESCO did not want any trouble, or clamps fitted or anyone fined, just the signs put up telling people what would happen, TESCO management are not interested in infringements being brought to their attention.
2) B&Q Farnborough, Hampshire builders vans often park in the disabled bays because they are near the exit and therefore easier to load. Also B&Q tell there staff that they can park in the disabled bays on the late shift which starts just before 8pm whilst the store is open till 9pm, this came from a B&Q staff member I questioned after he had parked and was going into work in B&Q uniform, when I queried this with the duty manager, he said this was not store policy, but it obviously is because of the disabled bays are usually full from before 8pm till after closing and not a blue badge in sight
In the MOBILISE magazine some years ago there was an article saying B&Q and TESCO had signed up for the `baywatch` scheme and B&Q even have booklets in store about the `disability` help & awareness etc, but reality is very different.
I also read that under the DDA stores had to monitor disabled facilities, but when questioned neither store could produce any record of this.

Sevenoaks parking blunder
It may have seemed like the best option at the time but there is never an excuse for parking abuse, especially when there`s plenty of other free spaces! Hopefully Sevenoaks District council will make it known to their employees that this is not acceptable. |
White van man
White van man decided that he should not park in the vacant disabled space to make a delivery at Acorn House so he parked in the roadway totally blocking the space and making exit from the adjacent disabled spaces difficult. When challenged he admitted that it was a stupid thing to do!
Just to make it worse Acorn House in Milton Keynes is the headquarters of the Milton Keynes Community Foundation and houses many charities. Yes, that`s right, lots of disabled people work at or visit the building!!

Another example of bay abuse.
Dozens of parking spaces available but why did this non blue badge holder take the last disabled bay?
|
"Disabled" portaloo!!
On the same day Asda announce they are clamping down on Blue Badge abuse, Baywatch receive this photograph taken in Aberdare. |
You can always rely on Royal Mail to deliver...

Van drivers beware!
This photograph was taken by Mobilise Chairman Douglas Campbell at 8.07am in Silbury Boulevard, Central Milton Keynes. Supplies Team have now received a letter pointing out that as well as being eligible for a £60 PCN, parking a liveried vehicles in this way risks real damage to a companies image. |
Hospital security in a disabled bay
I had to visit the RNOH outpatients today. Hospital security seem to think that they are entitled to park anywhere. NHS is keen to stop patients abusing staff how about staff abuse of patients and their needs? It might be nice to see if the hospital will comment.
I find this attitude at other hospitals from security staff.

Why isn`t more being done?
I had a meeting today with the Disability Advisor at my local Job Centre, I`m physically disabled and was appalled when i saw this (see photo), they only have two spaces as it is and i couldn`t get into either, i had to park at the end of the car park and walk, as i can only walk with sticks i was shattered when i eventually got to the building, why isn`t more being done about this? it`s appalling.

A management decision!!!
These are the disabled parking bays outside a children`s centre in York, including a mainstream school, a special school and a Surestart centre (Surestart provides services for disadvantaged children.)
The car belongs to a member of Surestart staff - I think it may be the manager`s, and I have been complaining about it being parked here since 1st August. This photo was taken on 16th August. As you can see in the background, there is a half-empty 100 space car park just a few feet away.
Her reply is "this is an internal management decision." Obviously disability is a management decision.

U Prat sticker After visiting your site for the first time I thought I would send you this to add to your comments and photo`s section of your web site:-My girlfriend (who is the designated driver for a disabled friend who has cerebral palsy) was fined for parking in a non designated disabled bay while out in Blackpool, and after seeing cars without a blue badge (She had the blue badge displayed clearly whilst parked) I decided I had to do something, and that is when I found these:-
www.disabledstickers.co.uk
Although I copied their idea and printed out my own stickers, I usually carry 2 or 3 of them with me when we go out and use them on any vehicle that is parked in a disabled bay without a blue badge or disabled tax disc But remember if you are printing your own to use a low tack label so that it can be removed without too much hassle.

Truck parked at a supermarket in a disabled bay
This just shows why Baywatch is so important. |
Captured on camera!
I thought you might be interested in this photograph which I took yesterday (Monday) at Derby Nuffield hopspital. I watched the able-bodied woman driver calmly reverse into these two spaces without a care in the world. Unbelievable. |
Delivery lorry parked in a disabled bay.
For a change this lorry driver was actually caught and given a PCN. Maybe next time he`ll think twice before parking in a disabled bay. |
